Being yourself: Active Speaking

I want to be more of myself and

who I really am.

I'm an introverted person and curious about other people. Everyone is so different and it can be fun learning more about those differences. As a  result I like listening to others more than talking about myself but who I am doesn't get across.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Can you hear their battle ?

Think of people as songs, are they happy, sad, or anxious? To me everyone is on their own journey and if you listen carefully you can hear it. Relationships are all about communication and understanding one another.

Make Success Simple

Sim·pli·fy

“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.”

Being a leader, launching a start up or running an organization is not easy. The average workweek is a marathon sprint, emotional roller coaster with HOLY CRAP moments and daily challengesLate nights, poor diet and little contact with friends is the name of the game.

However with so much chaos and things to handle, over time it can quickly become overwhelming. Still, we need to succeed and taking the time to simplify your thoughts can feel like shedding weighted anchors off of your mind. Simply to focus and keep afloat.

Stranger Danger

Adventure with a Musician and wife

I was at the bus stop trying to head home.  Sadly the bus was not going to arrive for another hour since I missed it. Waiting and listening to music on my new phone the galaxy S3 I bought last month, I was interrupted by a woman asking for my phone to make a call. Immediately suspicious for my very lovely new phone, I looked at her and saw that she was an Indian woman with a shawl with a kind smile. Her smile reminded me of my mom and I immediately let her make the call without asking her why. I wouldn't want someone to say no to my mom if she needed help.

After the call she was about to walk away and as I was putting on my head phones, she turned around and asked me if I wanted a ride home as she called her husband to come pick her up. By this time, I had known her for the grand total of 23 seconds. I decided to trust my luck and say yes.

We walked quietly for a few minutes,  before I started to talk to her. Learned that her name is Sharon and that she moved to Canada because she got married back in the late 80‘s. Turns out it was through an arranged marriage. Curious, I asked her what her favorite memory with him was. She hard time telling me one so instead she started describing him as a loving, caring, hardworking and funny guy. During this whole time I could see from her expression and eyes that she really cared about him. Eventually I discovered he was a transit bus driver and singer who occasionally travels to India to sing. Pretty cool ! With songs like sexy senior citizen and dream transit driver definitely sounds like a funny and interesting guy.

Probing her again a little bit more, she then started telling me about how in 2004 she was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through chemo therapy. How it was an extremely difficult time for herself but her husband was with her every step of the way. When I met him and they were driving me home he was telling me about how bleak life looks when you ask the doctor, “will she live”, and he replies with a I don’t know.  Dark times indeed, during this period he wrote several songs for her to help her through the time.

We can do no great things, only small things with great love.  ~Mother Teresa
She would describe to me how after all the chemo her state of mind was all messed up and blank but he was there with her through the whole time. Ultimately, he said that there were so many good memories they shared together that it was hard to choose. But what was the greatest are the moments he shares with her in the present.

By this time they had gotten to my house and I thanked them for the ride. It was lovely hearing their story and I just wanted to share that with you.
